Cadillac Loop Tour
Acadia National Park
Cadillac Mountain & Park Loop Road
3 Hour Private Driving Tour

Picture
Highlights
Acadia National Park's Loop Road is a relaxing drive all in itself.
Begin your journey on the one-way section of Acadia National Park's famous loop road.  Enjoy views of Cadillac mountain, the Great Meadow, the Wild Gardens of Acadia as well as beaver ponds and waterways as you roll along.  Egg Rock Lighthouse is out on Frenchman's bay with lobster boats everywhere you see.  Perhaps you might catch a glimpse of Peregrine falcons, eagles, ospreys and other countless sea birds as you ride.

Sand Beach
Have a closer look at Sand Beach.  Sand beach is a suggested stop where you can go down to the beach for pictures.  One of the best places during the excursion to get right up next to the Atlantic Ocean.  I would suggest about 10 or 15 minutes to enjoy this stop, take a short walk and have some pictures.  Restrooms are here and all along the way inside Acadia National Park.
Picture

Thunder Hole
Take a good peak at Thunder Hole.  Be very careful on slippery places where the ocean spray has soaked the granite walkways!  I would suggest about 10 or 15 minutes to enjoy this stop.  If the waves are crashing in, use your own discretion!  During stormier days the Acadia National Park rangers will restrict or shut off access completely.
Picture

Otter Point
Otter Point is the highest cliff face on the entire seaboard of the contiguous United States.
Acadia National Park's loop road takes us over and around Otter Point.
Everything is visible from the vehicle.  If you would like a stop, it is possible.
The ringing buoy nearby is charming to most.

Little Hunter's Beach
Some folks enjoy a quick stop here to see an example of a Maine cobblestone beach.
Cobblestone beaches are much more common in this area and are not so well protected.  On a cobblestone beach, the loose sand and other smaller objects are washed out to sea, smoothing bigger rocks, or cobblestones, which remain on the beach during a never ending "sanding" process.

Picture
Wildwood Stables
During your tour you will see examples of the Carriage Road system inside Acadia National Park.  Constructed and designed by John Rockefeller Jr. during the development of the park, it runs for about 50 miles around the lakes, ponds and mountains of Acadia.  A drive by the Wildwood Stables lets us admire some of the horses going on, or coming back from a pleasurable trot on the Carriage Road system.  Acadia National Park offers Carriage Road Tours at the Wildwood Stables for a fee.

Jordan Pond
Jordan Pond is a fresh water pond along Acadia National Park's loop road.  Simply driving along the road affords beautiful views of Jordan Pond as we pass through the valley between several interior mountains.  Jordan Pond is home to the only restaurant inside Acadia National Park.  The Jordan Pond House restaurant is famous for serving Tea & Popovers pond-side to its diners.  The biggest gift shop of Acadia National Park is located here.  Carriage roads and hiking trails exist along Jordan Pond's banks.

Eagle Lake
Eagle Lake is a fresh water lake situated at the base of Cadillac mountain and is easily visible from Acadia National Park's loop road.  An overlook about one-third up Cadillac Mountain summit road affords awesome views of Eagle Lake.  Blue Hill, Maine is also easily seen in the distance on clear days from this spot.  John Rockefeller Jr. made sure his famous Carriage Roads made its way around Eagle Lake below.  A six mile Carriage Road loop goes around the lake and connects to the rest of Acadia National Park's Carriage Road system.

Cadillac Mountain
Enjoy Acadia National Park's Cadillac Mountain.  The drive up and down is breathtaking.  From the comfort of your seat, you can see Bar Harbor village below and all the boats and islands out on Frenchman's bay.  Savor the experience with a 20 minute walk around a cement & granite path at the summit if you so desire.  Be sure to bring a wind breaker!  The temperature can really come down at the summit of Cadillac Mountain compared to just a quarter of a mile down below in the village of Bar Harbor.

Bar Harbor Village
Most Tours begin and end in the village of Bar Harbor.  Tall tales of history and local life abound as you ride down the quaint streets of the town.  It was once called Eden, Massachusetts, when Maine was too young to be on its own.  It was later changed to Bar Harbor, Massachusetts under the authorization of one Samuel Adams, administrator for these matters at the time down in Boston.  Later, in the year 1820, Maine became the 23rd state via negotiations of the Missouri Compromise.  From there on after, it was officially known as Bar Harbor, Maine!

Morning excursions start around 9AM.
Afternoon tours usually begin around 1PM.

The itinerary encompasses more of Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park by including a scenic route that travels past boat docks and the quaint harbor villages of Otter Creek, Seal Harbor and Northeast Harbor, Maine.  This excursion accentuates Mount Desert Island's treasured fjord, located in the middle of the island, with an ocean-side drive along Somes Sound up Sargent Drive.

Created and crafted over the past decade by your own personal local Guide Woody, this Tour gives you and your loved ones more of a "wide angle view" of Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island!

Cadillac Mountain
Forget the stress and hassle of worrying about reservations to experience Acadia National Park's crown jewel, Cadillac Mountain.  Enjoy your own personal guided trip up Cadillac Mountain Summit road in modern comfort while you ascend one-quarter mile in elevation.  Find yourself immersed within spectacular vistas of Acadia National Park in almost all directions!  Enjoy a 20 minute walk around a cement & granite path at the summit if you so desire.  Bar Harbor village lies down below with many sea-faring vessels sailing or motoring out on splendid Frenchman's Bay.
1 hour is needed to experience Cadillac Mountain.

Picture
Sand Beach
Sand Beach is a recommended stop where you are able to go down to the beach for pictures.  Probably the best place during your Acadia National Park excursion to get right up next to the Atlantic Ocean.  Always beware of rip tides if you get too close to these cold waters!!!

Suggested time at this attraction is 15 to 20 minutes.

Picture
Thunder Hole
Locals know that around 2 hours before high tide is the best chance to see "thunderous activity" at Thunder Hole.  Beware!  Big waves and swells from the Atlantic Ocean, the wrath of Mother Nature in her very worst of moods, will really get the wild action going.  You can truly feel the granite shake beneath your feet when the bigger waves are crashing in!

During stormier days the Acadia National Park rangers will restrict or shut off access completely.
Suggested time at Thunder Hole is 15 to 20 minutes.

Picture
Otter Point
Acadia National Park's loop road takes us over and around Otter Point.  Otter point has an elevation of over 100 feet looking down upon the open ocean with spectacular views in almost every direction.

A slow drive-by is on the itinerary.
A short stop here is possible if you like.

Picture
Seal Harbor
Motor along Mount Desert Island's coastal roads and as you listen to stories of famous historical figures such as John Rockefeller Jr. and Edsel Ford.  Both spent many summers with their families here in exquisite Seal Harbor, Maine.  Today, celebrities such as Martha Stewart frequent Seal Harbor Yacht Club.  Enjoy beautiful mansions around every cove, local homes, wharves, docks and boats.  Enjoy the environs as we take a short stop at the Seal Harbor municipal pier for pictures and a stretch.

Picture
Northeast Harbor
A drive through Northeast Harbor, Maine lets you have a closer look at "the salt-life" of both year round and seasonal residents of Mount Desert Island.  Many previous Tour Groups have made it a point to share how much they really enjoyed this exclusive look at the numerous local homes, summer residences and mansions of Northeast Harbor.

The Asticou Azalea Garden is located here.
We can make it a stop for any garden enthusiasts on board.

Sargent Drive
Sargent Drive is a real hidden gem just minutes away from Northeast Harbor village center.  The natural mix of sea and mountains here form the only fjord on the Northeast seaboard of the United States.  Sargent Drive is part of Acadia National Park and runs for a few miles along ocean-side up the center of Mount Desert Island.  Lobster buoys are abundant here as Somes Sound is deep Atlantic ocean water, its bottom teeming with lobsters.  Tall sail boats and lobster boats are a common sight.

Bar Harbor Village
Originally called Eden, Massachusetts, it was officially titled Bar Harbor, Maine in the year 1820 when Maine became the 23rd state by way of the Missouri Compromise.  Eden was later officially changed to Bar Harbor to give all sea-faring folk a more descriptive moniker for this particular harbor.  Its sand bar lies hidden beneath the waves from unknowing boaters for the majority of each day.  Over the years many unfortunate mariners have been snagged by this sand bar.  Twice per day, at low tide,  the sand bar is high and dry for about 3 hours.  This gives people an opportunity to hike from Bar Harbor village over to Bar Island, part of Acadia National Park.

Come motor around the charming village streets of Bar Harbor past parks, fountains and flowers.
Hear alluring tales of the past and present!
